Biography:
Clement of Alexandria, head of the Alexandrian catechetical school, was one of the most important early Christian fathers. He spent a great deal of time trying to reconcile Greek philosophy with Christian theology, arguing that Greek philosophy was in fact a preparation for the gospel:

Philosophy was necessary to the Greeks for righteousness until the coming of the Lord; and even now it is useful for the development of true religion as a kind of preparatory discipline for those who arrive at faith by way of demonstration.

This sort of doctrine is known as preparatio evangelica.

What is the Philosophy of Religion?
Sometimes confused with theology, the Philosophy of Religion is the philosophical study of religious beliefs, religious doctrines, religious arguments and religious history.
