Definition:
Acacianism was the source of a fifth-century dispute between Eastern and Western Churches
over the question of Monophysite doctrine. At issue was a 482 document issued by Acacius,
the patriarch of Constantinople (472-489), in order to resolve the Monophysite conflict
without reference to the Council of Chalcedon. This document, Henoticon ended up
being unacceptable not only to the pope, but also to various Monophysites.
