Definition: The term occult comes from the Latin word occulere, which means "to hide." Today, the word occult is applied to anything which is based upon mysterious, secret, or hidden forces. Thus, the ability to tell the future from tea leaves would be an "occult" ability due to the fact that the power involved is mysterious or hidden.
