Definition: The study of Near Death Experiences (NDEs) is hoped, by some, to provide convincing evidence that we, as persons, survive our physical deaths. It is argued that people who go through NDEs typically experience the following six things:

  • deep sense of contentment and peace
  • sense of being detached from the physical body
  • movement into some "other" world
  • presence of another being there, attempting to help
  • brilliant white or golden light into which one is immersed
  • unforgettable beauty or colors.

Of course, by definition, an NDE is not an experience of actual death - that's why it is called a Near Death Experience rather than simply a Death Experience. If indeed a person has not died, it is difficult to understand why anyone would believe that their experience should provide for us reliable and accurate information of what occurs after death.
