Definition: Uri Geller is an Israeli illusionist who, after spending a lot of time traveling around to various clubs in Israel honing his skills, came to the United States and claimed to be a powerful psychic who specialized in bending objects with the power of his mind.

Geller was able to dupe quite a few scientists who were simply unable to detect a person actively engaging in trickery. Even the scientific journal Nature was willing to publish an article by researchers Russell Targ and Harold Puthoff (from the Stanford Research Institute, SRI) in which they claimed that they had been able to scientifically verify his abilities.

Whenever experienced researchers and/or professional illusionists have had a hand in setting the controls for experiments on his abilities, he has been unable to manifest any powers whatsoever. Various rationalizations are offered for his failures, including too many target subjects, no telepathy available at the time, distractions from scientific equipment, and the negative presence of skeptics who "inhibit" the proper functioning of psi ability.
