Biography:
Charles Fort (1874-1932) was a man who enjoyed challenging the prevailing beliefs and
attitudes of scientists. He particularly enjoyed finding phenomena which scientists
could not explain and using them as means to confound the scientific community. Fort
never did much to investigate the events himself - instead, he seems to have simply
accepted whatever was reported to him.
Today there are still people who call themselves "Forteans" - they consider themselves to be students of the paranormal and scientifically inexplicable, although the label seems to be used more often by those who have a greater interest in fostering rather than solving mysteries. According to the Fortean Society's own literature:
The Society provides a have for lost causes, most of which - but for our sympathy - might become quite extinct. ...A good many adherents of a flat earth are members, anti-vivisectionists, anti-vaccinationists, anti-Wasserman-testers and people who still believe disarmament of nations would be a good thing.

The first section is Critical Thinking itself - how to think about claims and arguments you hear, how to critique arguments, and how to formulate your own arguments such that they are more likely to be sound and valid. The second section is about Skeptical Investigations - the practical application of the critical thinking skills covered in the first section. Here you will find critiques of things like astrology, alternative medicine, parapsychology, the New Age and more.
