Definition:
The Book of Mormon is the main scriptural text of the Church of Jesus Christ and Latter Day Saints, known popularly as the Mormons. It is believed that this text supplements, but does not replace the Bible - much as the New Testament supplements the Old Testament.

The Book of Mormon was published by Joseph Smith in 1830 and the full, official name of what believers call "another testament of Jesus Christ" is The Book of Mormon: An Account Written by the Hand of Mormon upn Plates Taken from the Plates of Nephi. Contained within this title is also the legend of its origin. According to Smith, this book was not created by him, but is instead simply a translation of golden plates which he found in Manchester, New York. He claimed that he was lead to these tablets by the angel Moroni.

This book isn't so much about theology as it is about history: the history of people who migrated from the Near East to the New World some time during the era of the Old Testament. It also tells about a post-crucifixion apperance of Jesus Christ to the people who were living in the New World at the time.
