Biography:
Isaac Meyer Wise was a rabbi who founded Reform Judaism in the United States. He had emigrated from Bohemia to the United States in 1846 and, in 1854, he took over leadership of a Cincinnati congregation. In 1875, he played an important role in the founding of Hebrew Union College. Evidently he was not interested in causing great changes in Judaism early on, but over time he realized that many changes would be needed in order to make Judaism more viable in America.
