Definition:
The fallacy of hypostasization is a form of reification. Whereas reification simply involves treating everything as if it were an object, hypostasization involves treating abstract concepts as if they were real objects or things. An example of hypostasization would to argue that "science creates knowledge," which may be an acceptable statement in most situations but which is not strictly true. People produce knowledge and simply use science as a tool in that production. The fallacy of hypostasization would be committed if someone were to take the premise "science produces knowledge" and, after observing that some of that knowledge is used for evil, then concludes that there is therefore something wrong with science itself.
