Definition:
Something is absurd when it is explicitly contrary to reason and rationality. Synonyms
include paradoxical, meaningless or nonsensical.
In Existentialism, the concept of the absurd gains importance. According to existentialist philosophers such as Camus and Sartre, "absurdity" is the necessary result of our attempts to live a life of meaning and purpose in an indifferent, uncaring universe. For example, striving for things we cannot ever attain is basically absurd.
