Definition:
Sikh houses of worship are called gurdwara. Services at a gurdwara are lead by a granthi who reads from the Adi Granth, the Sikh holy scriptures. This book is normally kept on a pedestal of pillows. It is not unusual for Sikh gurdwara to have pictures of some or all of the ten human Gurus hanging on the walls.

It is also common in gurdwara for men and women to sit on different sides. Sikhs argue that this is not because of sexism - Sikhism explicitly rejects treating men or women as unequal. It is, rather, simply a tradition. Men and women are free to sit together during gudwara services, but it is unusual.
