Peter Abelard died.

1623
The Mennonites, a Protestant group descended from the Anabaptists, adopted the 18 articles of the Dordrecht Confession.

1649
The Maryland Assembly passed the Toleration Act, providing protection to Roman Catholics against Protestant harassment and discrimination, a problem which had been on the increase due to the growing power of Oliver Cromwell in England.

1864
Max Weber was born in Erfurt, Germany.

1878
Pope Leo XIII published his encyclical "Inscrutabili dei consilio," arguing for a reconciliation between the Catholic Church and modern society. This began a reversal of the policies of Leo's predecessor, Pope Pius IX.

1956
Representatives from Egypt, Saudi Arabia, and Yemen signed a treaty which placed their military forces under a single, unified command.

1971
The U.S. Supreme Court ruled on its first abortion case: United States v. Vuitch. The Court upheld a District of Columbia law allowing abortion only to preserve a woman's life or "health," making it clear that by "health" it means "psychological and physical well-being," effectively allowing abortion for any reason.

1982
Decided: Larson v. Valente
The Supreme Court ruled that a Minnesota law imposing greater burdens on minority, non-traditional religious groups was unconstitutional because was not closely enough related to furthering a specific governmental interest.

1999
Decided: Haller v. Pennsylvania
If tax exemptions are available only to religious groups, is that constitutional or is that force citizens to support religion? The Pennsylvania Supreme Court ruled that tax exemptions offered only to certain types of religious literature and not to other types of religious literature or any non-religious literature was unconstitutional.

2004
Two car bombs explode outside the General Security headquarters of Saudi Arabia in Riyadh. Nine are killed and 125 are wounded.

2006
Holy Great Friday is celebrated in Eastern Christendom. On this date Christians commemorate of the crucifixion of Jesus and other related events.
