The son of Hera and Zeus or perhaps just Hera - the stories conflict on this point - Hephaistos (Hephaestus) was ugly and lame, thus leading to his exclusion from the company of the other gods. But, while he may have been shunned for his awful looks, he was also much sought after for his skills as a craftsman. He made the most fantastic jewelry and weapons that were prized by both mortals and immortals.
