Acropolis Erechtheion / Erechtheum

Constructed mostly between 421 and 406 BCE (but not completed until around 395 BCE), the Erechtheion was designed to replace a much larger and older Temple of Athena that sat right next to it. It was dedicated to and named after Erechtheus, a legendary king of Athens who became a divinity and even at times identified with Poseidon. His grave is located near the north porch and the grave of Cecrops, an early king of Athens, is located under the Caryatid porch.
