Arch of Hadrian

Between the more ancient parts of Athens and the less ancient parts constructed by Hadrian lies the Arch of Hadrian, a triumphal arch built by the Athenians in 131 CE to honor the Roman emperor who had done so much for them. This arch is a combination of Roman and Greek styles: the triumphal arch is clearly Roman, but the Corinthian capitals and use of Pentelic marble (the same marble used in the construction of the Parthenon) is Greek. If you look closely, the lower portion looks typically Roman while the upper part is reminiscent of a Greek temple.
