God Against the Gods: The War Between Monotheism & Polytheism

Today the dominant religions in the world are monotheistic: Judaism, Christianity, and Islam. At one time, though, the dominant religions in the world were polytheistic and only Hinduism remains to carry on any sort of explicitly polytheistic tradition. How did this dramatic shift occur and what has it meant for western culture?

Very interesting book review, thank you. As a polotheistic Witch, I am intriged by the notion that would Christianity fallen into the minor religion category, a possibility for larger religious freedom would have prevailed – well at least somewhat I am sure of that. Sounds thought-provoking enough to warrent a trip to the bookstore.

“As a polotheistic Witch”</blockquote?

LOL Mark – being out of the broomcloset on an atheist-blog – I am asking for it, am I not? I really enjoy reading this blog in general, and the book reports in particular – always through-provoking, always stimulating. And no spells directed at anyone here.
