This is the case, I think, with Terry Jones of the Dove World Outreach Center. Children associated with his church went to school wearing shirts stating "Islam Is Of The Devil" and they had to be sent home, missing school, because they refused to change. This didn't bother Jones because as far as he is concerned, evangelizing his religion and church matter far more than the ability of the kids to get an education.
The shirts are connected to a local church called the Dove World Outreach Center. Church Senior Pastor Terry Jones tells The Gainesville Sun newspaper that spreading the church's message is more important than education.

Pastor Terry Jones' Dove World is the same organization that recently erected a sign stating "Islam is of the Devil" in Florida. So this stunt with the shirts isn't an isolated incident; instead, it's part of a structured, organized campaign against Islam. Whereas he has every right to erect a sign saying just about anything, though, students don't have a right to wear shirts saying just about anything. I don't think Terry Jones or others in his congregation understand that.
There's a rather obvious joke here about profoundly ignorant people not caring much about education because they just aren't educated enough to recognize its value. It's a sad situation, though, because there are clearly children in this church who are being raised to care more about vilifying other religions and beliefs than in about educating themselves about those religions and beliefs. Demonization of others — and that's happening here quite literally, not metaphorically — is usually a first step towards violence against those being attacked.

Om other words, there are Christian “madrases(sp)”; which are every bit as detrimental as the Islamic ones.
As ugly as this is, the real problem would be that I assume it was a public school. Messages like this would be unacceptable in a public school format. But it’s important to note that even ugly messages, generally, have a right to be expressed. You note that as well, but just to reiterate.
I do think it’s sad when children are indoctrinated into ridiculous or hateful ideologies. Agreed.
But I will say, if someone is promoting a message like this, I am much more in favor of them doing so in an open and public fashion, rather than a hidden fashion. In fact, this will actually make it much easier to push the point in the atheist community without being accused of making strawmen. That’s the one advantage to openly expressed Christian hate. It’s much easier to confront and address when the Christian openly admits this than when he hides it under the guise of a “loving” religion of “acceptance”–as most Christians do.
Just as an example, I once had a long discussion wiht a man who said he had an infant daughter and intended to raise her in Christianity. He asked me what my problem was with that. And I asked him if the central message he was going to provide to her was that she was unworthy of being with god, and that she was then responsible for an innocent man being tortured and killed so that she wouldn’t be subjected to the infinite torture she actually deserved–if god was just rather than merciful?
It took about 3 exchanges for him to finally admit that actually _is_ the doctrine. But he couldn’t get past the idea that “god’s love” makes her worthy. He was so oblivious to the idea that this “love” was only necessary once the little girl accepts she’s totally unacceptable and that nothing she can ever do can make her anything more than someone who deserves to be tortured for eternity for the horrific crime of being herself.
He didn’t “get” that part of it–but couldn’t deny that was part of it. I prefer the guy wearing the hate shirt–at least he admits what he’s preaching.
As a firm believer in Christianity and one who truly knows what the Christian faith is all about, I challenge not only those who oppose my faith but also the Christians who claim they are Christians yet never take the time to educate themselves on their faith.
Yes education is important. The education of the Christian faith. Not you or the other poster or the “Christian” you claimed to have spoken to seem to have a full understanding of the Christian faith, or as I like to call it.. the Truth.
The truth is that we are not responsible for the death of Jesus. That was all done through the mercy of God. Yes He is a merciful, loving, and JUST God. The wages of sin is death but the GIFT (the thing we don’t deserve because we are UNWORTHY) of God is eternal life, through the death and resurection of His son Jesus Christ.
Those who accept that we are all here to be worshipers of God and to be a part of His famiy, and accept the Truth about Jesus Christ’s death, burial and resurection for the redemption of our sins, WILL inherit an eternal life in heaven with our creator, glorifying Him.
Those who chose to believe there is something significant about themselves, so much AWESOMENESS to their meek little lives and choose to reject the Truth, will be cast into the lake of fire and pay the ultimate penalty for willingly living a life apart from your creator as a rebellious sinner.
Sounds aweful doesn’t it! Of course! We’re human. Noone likes to hear or admit that they’re evil, and thats where the devil has you all fooled, just as he has since the beginning of God’s creation.
So back to the T shirt’s. Personally I think its garbage that, while at work or school, people can wear rainbow shirts and talk about their gay pride, or sit around and discuss some great philosophers distorted theories on how we crawled out of nothing and evolved into human beings, but the moment anyone tries to make a statement about the Truth, its immediately rejected and dismissed as a band of Christian “haters” or Jesus freaks.
It must be nice to live so ignorantly in your own little bubbles of “its all about me until the day I die and there’s no more ME to worry about.”
There’s probably a little better statement to put on the shirt like maybe, “hey muslims, I’ve got some good news to tell you about! His name is Jesus!” But to completely dismiss the Christian faith because someone was bold, and blatent when designing a T shirt seems a little wreckless to me. You may want to consider for a moment the fact that there just might be something or someone out there more powerful and complex than our little human brains. Someone that is so divine that we, as human beings, just might not be able to explain it. I challenge you to rethink your dismissal of this faith and research the Christian faith a little harder before you call us all a bunch of crazy cultish muslim haters.
Any true Christian will openly admit to not hating anyone. We hate the devil and the demons that convince you that Jesus died in vein. But we certainly don’t hate you. Our entire religion is based on God’s love for mankind and as true Christians we strive every day to live just as our creator did while HE walked this Earth in His fleshly body recognized by many as Jesus Christ.
One of my best friends is an Athiest and I pray for his Christian enlightenment every day.
Jesus told us however, narrow is the gate to heaven and broad is the path to destruction.
So at least 51% of this world is going to Hell in a hand basket, but don’t let a T shirt be the reason that you’re one of them.
I’m praying for you guys and if any of you want to discuss this with me please feel free to email me at NSwarthout@gmail.com

hahahahaha ! Allah created Islam … allah continue to protect Islam
So why does this fool wants to burn Qur’an in Public. Cause the Qur’an makes sense and is 100 % word of GOD teaching Justice and Morality. But since he is a pervert he chose bible that is the concoction of Saul of Tarsus that teaches rape, incest, mass murders, plunders, theft and usury. Is that not the Christianity has been doing all along all over the world?
People are abandonning the Churches due to nonsensical teaching of bible, and are either becoming atheist or reverting to Islam. Afcourse Qur’an is a threat to bible, and thus threat to preachers income and that why those fools would hope to burn all the Qur’an of the world. To remind you simpleton fools, gather all your worldy and Stanic forces, yet you will fail. Because Qur’an is the Word of GOD while bible is Paul’s concoction plageurised from Ancient Egyptian Pagan Mystery Religion where Osiris was the god head with Identical bibliography as that of Jesus of Mystery as presented by the looser St. Paul.
If it were up to me, this guy’s freedom of speech rights would be modified. The things he says about Muslims are terrible. Terrible isn’t always criminal……but in my view it is criminal in this case. A reasonable person could conclude that he wanted to insult a huge group of people to the point that some of them might react strongly enough to contribute to the growing wedge between Islam and the ignorant Americans. SORRY, but a large portion of the population doesn,t have a clue and will believe all kinds of crazy stuff. Thus we get MORE hatred towards Muslims. And some people think this hatred helps keep the USA safe. QUITE THE OPPOSITE. Muslims did NOTHING to warrant any hate from us. I don’t have a dog in this fight. I’m not Muslim or Christian or anything else. I’m a life long athiest. So, much as I never want to restrict anyone’s freedom of speech, I gotta give this BIGOT a gag order. My best friend of 55 years is a lifelong Christian. Our difference has never been a problem, and we discuss religions with each other freely. Reason why: Respect………and there is no valid reason why we should not respect everyone.
Small time preacher. No respect. And someone might die because there are fanatics on both sides. Clear message to radical Islamists . . . they deserve each other.
The Bible states in Luke 6: 27-29 the following:[27] “But I tell you who hear me: Love your enemies, do good to those who hate you, [28] bless those who curse you, pray for those who mistreat you. [29] If someone strikes you on one cheek, turn to him the other also.”
How curious that so many like Terry Jones who claim god is on their side use god to go about their hateful, destructive ways. One sometimes wishes there were actually a hell to send these hypocrites to.
Goodseed organization reaches out to Muslims.According to their experience Muslims come to know jesus and christianity by learning about a God of love and grace. Not by burning their Korans.
Burn the koran is a blasphemy, that’s seems to be like nazis made during WW II, called biblioclasm. If he do that, he will show in all world he are not better than extrem muslims.
And what’s about Malleus Maleficarum ? Why wasn’t it flaring?
When he will bring back roughing-hew?
Yeah, he will burn the koran; and next muslims will burn the bible in retaliation. “Evil spawning evil”, his alternative is to offer us a new rise up of violences ? Maybe that’s what he want…
And what’s after ? he believes extrem muslims will stop ? Nothing will change really like this, at the opposite that will be worst ! Muslims want to be taunt, legitimizing theirs violent actions then.
If he want to start a new crusade, why don’t he move to Iran, we will not retain him ! But do not involve innocents in his fall !
America ! Wake up ! Times to open eyes !
God will not save us from all the religious fanatics in the Earth, like Terry Jones and Bin Ladden, they are the true plague of this world…
“Test yourselves to see if you are in the faith; examine yourselves! Or do you not recognize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you” (2 Corinthians 13.5)
“Where books are burned, one also ends up burning men. ”
– Heinrich Heine, Almansor
you need fame, aren”t you? but I want to remind you that the holly koran doesn’t need anyone to dfend about as ALLAH promise to protect it unlike your bible
It needs only minded readers to understand it.If you had done your deed ,I promise you that you’d have been shown all kinds of death in the bottom of hill.
Boy, these comments by religious people are a great validation of my decision to forego all religion and their gods. Everyone knows what god wants and is willing to put that knowledge to practice on all the other people their god, presumably, created.
Yay Atheism! Let us respect each other!
Christians, Jews and Muslims all worship the same god, just believing in different prophets. Essentially they are little different from competing corporations or franchises that want to attract the largest amount of difference to their brand. It is, and always has been, about money and power. Creating fear, dividing people and selling hope. The competition between these religions stems from their similarity. Just as in business, the more similar two products are, the greater the competition between the manufacturers. I feel pity for religious people who feel the need to fight with one another over seemingly insignificant issues, such as whose prophet wad best, when they are missing the worthwhile messages in their holy books. It is like watching children beating each other over which one has the best imaginary friend. Religion does almost no good in the world, it is an anachronism and something that we should all hope will die out
Are you sure? I think you’re overlooking significant differences in their theologies.
and from the time that the daily sacrifice is taken away, and the abomination of desolation is set up, there shall be thousand tow hundred and ninety days. what he is doing is to mark the end of the abomination of desolation the fall of Islam
Here are my thoughts on the plans this man has for 9/11….

I agree that Pastor Jones religion is more important than education. Just take a look at the grammer and spelling in the his school’s weird rulebook. There’s a lot of committment to rules and subservience than to grammer and spelling.
That said, Pastor Jones topic that reigns the highest on his list is…Pastor Jones. Once it becomes known that he’s a cult figure in the truest sense of the word, pyschologically abusive through his church practices (per daughter), and crooked as the day is long…I think his real motivations will surface adn it won’t be his religion.
Everything that this preacher does is a publicity stunt. His church has lost its non-profit status. He has about 50 people in his church. Can anyone say publicity? And we are all giving him want he wants.
As far as the t-shirts, tracieh made a comment about them being in the public school system. I taught in the public school system for a lot of years. Most schools don’t allow ANY clothing that insults the beliefs of another. They are, however, allowed to wear a shirt with a cross on it, for example, if they’re christian or something of that ilk, it just can’t be personally insulting.
The fact that christians believe that religious indoctrination is more important than education ought to tell us a lot about them.
