Godless Moral Values: Can Godless Atheists Have Moral Values?
Thursday April 17, 2008
A popular claim among religious theists is that atheists have no basis for morality - that religion and gods are needed for moral values. Usually they mean their religion and god, but sometimes they seem willing to accept any religion and any god. The truth is that neither religions nor gods are necessary for morality, ethics, or values. They can exist in a godless, secular context just fine, as demonstrated by all the godless atheists who lead moral lives every day.

Doug, please, in the name of all that is geeky- USE the SHIFT KEY.
Secondly Austin isn’t going to repent. He hasn’t done anything to repent for- at least I don’t think he has commited any felonies- I’d have to check.
Not to mention repentance is rather worthless. Feeling sorry doesn’t change what you have done- it is only useful for rehabilitating someone back into society. Saying you are sorry doesn’t heal a victims wounds and it rarely brings closure, although it can.
Of course, you are talking about Austin Cline’s “immortal soul”. Unfortunately, (or perhaps fortunately) he doesn’t have one. Neither do I. In fact no one has a soul. Sorry.
If people are basically good then what does he have to repent for?
Hey Doug,
Here is a news flash for ( if you didn’t know or haven’t read this partof the babble) To repent, one must commet a sin/sins,right? Well Your so called god has,Repented more than once. Starting with Moses.
Now why would a god repent to a mortal?
Has anyone read the material on atheism and morality that is located in this article on atheism: http://www.conservapedia.com/Atheism ?

To be honest, I wouldn’t want to. I know there is all this about reading up on other views, but sometimes you don’t want to end up screaming at the computer etc.
The whole “Atheists can’t have moral values” is a straw man and the theists know it.
