Sometimes people talk about things they shouldn't; far too often, though, people keep quiet about things which should be discussed and brought out into the open. Whether done individually or collectively in a 'conspiracy of silence,' the denial of uncomfortable or embarrassing truths appears to be a common aspect of human social relationships. Because such silences can do so much damage, we should learn more about them in order to understand how to counter the impulse.

Here is something no one likes to talk about around here…the mass atrocities committed by practitioners of atheistically based philosophies.

Oh wait, maybe they weren’t REAL atheists, or it wasn’t BECAUSE of atheism?

Of course, you don not accept a Christian or a Jew making the same point…because you don’t believe that what applies to THEM applies to you.

The atheist double standard.

I don’t know of anyone who has ever killed anyone in the name of atheism. Do you?

There are lots of examples of Christians and Jews who kill, but not in name of their religion. There are, however, lots of examples of Christians, Jews, and adherents of other religions who do kill in the name of their religion. What you just don’t get is that atheism and religion aren’t comparable — atheism is the absence of belief in gods; religion is an organized belief system.

The atheist double standard.

Only if we pretend that everything you wrote wasn’t factually incorrect.
