Oklahoma: Gays are Greatest Threat to American Freedom

Sunday August 15, 2004
Who represents the greatest threat to American freedom today? Islamic terrorists? Overzealous government officials trying to protect us? No! It's the gays and their nasty desire to get married! At least, that's what former U.S. Representative (and current Senate candidate) Tom Coburn tells us.

The Oklahoma Democrat explains:

One of Coburn’s key concerns (one might say obsessions) is his vow to make abortion illegal, even in cases of rape. So strong are the feelings of this obstetrician-gynecologist that he recently told an AP reporter, “I favor the death penalty for abortionists and other people who take life.” Executing doctors who perform legal abortions? He later clarified his remark saying, “… I was not referring to current law.” Carson believes women, their families and their doctors ought to make this personal decision largely without the intervention of government.
Coburn spent much of his congressional career on other ideological issues, advocating elimination of federal funding for the National Endowment for the Arts and decrying the televising of the Holocaust movie “Schindler’s List” because it showed nudity and violence.
Last year to the Rogers County Republicans he said, “… The gay community has infiltrated the very centers of power in every area across this country, and they wield extreme power. ... That agenda is the greatest threat to our freedom that we face today. Why do you think we see the rationalization for abortion and multiple sexual partners? That’s a gay agenda.”

America Blog comments:

He's the Republican Senate candidate from Oklahoma. He's also the man George W. Bush picked to head his presidential AIDS commission. Yes, this anti-gay nutjob was picked by our fearless leader to help decimate the government's attack on the AIDS epidemic.
But hey, as too many of our gay Republican friends are so quick to tell us, I'm sure President Bush didn't really MEAN to appoint Coburn to help create absurd policies that would risk the death of our friends and family members. Bush simply HAD to aid and abet our deaths by weakening the war on AIDS because the bad man behind the curtain made him. Bush is all too willing to destroy us every chance he gets, but what matters is that HE DOESN'T MEAN IT AS HE SLITS YOUR THROAT.

Watch out for the gay menace! They’ve infiltrated everywhere! Check under your bed — and, in the cases of raging homophobes like Coburn, you better check your closets as well. There’s likely a gay in there as well.
