Alabama State Laws on Flag Burning, Desecration, Abuse

By , About.com Guide

Alabama: Desecration of "venerated objects" in public is a misdemeanor. Such objects include the American flag, the state flag, or "any other object of veneration by the public or a substantial segment thereof."

Penalty: none specified.

Source: 13A-11-12

Analysis:
Objects are protected in Alabama because they are "venerated," or because they are respected by others. This means that public desecration of a cross, crucifix, Bible, or Quran would be guilty of a misdemeanor.
