Genesis has contradictory accounts of when animals were created by God. The Bible's first creation story says animals were created first and humans were created second. The Bible's second creation story, though, says that the first man was created first and all the animals were created later. So when were animals created relative to humans: before humans or after humans?
First Creation Story
Genesis 1:24-27: And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.
And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.
Second Creation Story
Genesis 2:5: And the Lord God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
Genesis 2:15: And the Lord God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
Genesis 2:18-19: And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. And out of the ground the Lord God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.
Which story of when God created the animals is supposed to be correct? The first Bible story contradicts the second Bible story and they can't both be true. Both Bible stories can, however, be false.
Is this a legitimate Bible contradiction or can the two Bible accounts of when animals were created be harmonized? If you think you can resolve this Bible contradiction, explain how — but your solution cannot add anything new that's not already in the stories and cannot leave out any details that the Bible provides.
