Republican Party Hiding Christian Right Connections?

It has been argued that the Republican Party has, at times, down played their close ties to radical Christian Right groups in order to appeal to moderate voters who wouldn't support the groups' extreme agenda - for example, by not inviting certain activists to speak at the Republican convention. Do you think that has been happening or is this just a case of selective use of data?
