Biography:
Paul Johannes Tillich was a German-American theologian who is perhaps most famous
for arguing in his work Systematic Theology that religion is really one's
"ultimate concern" and that god is really the "ground of all being" or simply
"being itself," as opposed to one "being" among others. Thus, to be religious is
simply to have some concern which excludes all other concerns and interests - it
is soemthing to which one has total and unconditional commitment.
Unfortunately, it is almost impossible to make much of any sense out of those phrases - they can mean absolutely anything to anyone. The result of this is that neither religion nor god end up being much of anything at all.

Sometimes confused with theology, the Philosophy of Religion is the philosophical study of religious beliefs, religious doctrines, religious arguments and religious history. The line between theology and the philosophy of religion isn't always sharp, but the primary difference is that theology tends to be apologetical in nature, committed to the defense of particular religious positions, whereas Philosophy of Religion is committed to the investigation of religion itself, rather than the truth of any particular religion. What is Theism?
