Definition:
Located mostly in Trinidad and a few other locations in the Caribbean, Spiritual Baptists are
also known as "Shouters" because a primary aspect of their religious services involves a
form of spirit possession which results in a person "shouting" out uncontrollably. For a long
time they were repressed by the colonial administration on the argument that their
shouting was a "disturbance of the peace" - but restrictions on them were lifted in 1951.
