Biography:
Peter Popoff was one of a number of televised American faith healers in the 1980s
whose relative success also brought the critical scrutiny of skeptics, in particular
magician James Randi. Popoff displayed a remarkable ability to pick people out of the
audience, knowing what was wrong with them - and Randi was determined to find out how
and why.
Investigations revealed that audience members filled out forms prior to a show's taping and those who were most "curable" were picked out by Popoff's staff. Mrs. Popoff then fed Peter the relevant information via wireless transmitter to a small device in his ear. The public revelation of his deception occurred in an episode of the "Tonight Show" in 1986 and, unusual for this sort of thing, it actually resulted in Popoff losing just about all of his supporters and audiences.

Sometimes confused with theology, the Philosophy of Religion is the philosophical study of religious beliefs, religious doctrines, religious arguments and religious history. The line between theology and the philosophy of religion isn't always sharp, but the primary difference is that theology tends to be apologetical in nature, committed to the defense of particular religious positions, whereas Philosophy of Religion is committed to the investigation of religion itself, rather than the truth of any particular religion. What is Theism?
