Biography:
Franklin Graham is the fourth of five children of the famous American evangelist,
Billy Graham, and his wife Ruth Bell Graham. He has described his early life as
rebellious in character, but while in Jerusalem he says he had a strong religious
experienced and decided dedicate his life to Christian causes.
He started out by helping Bob Pierce, founder of the Christian relief organization Samaritan's Purse. Pierce died of leukemia and the following year, 1979, Graham took over as president and chairman of Samaritan's Purse. He continues in the function today for the $131 million, 300-employee organization.
In the year 2000, Franklin followed in his father's footsteps by becoming the executive officer of his father's ministry. In 2001 he took over his father's traditional role of delivering the prayer during the presidential swearing-in ceremony in Washington, D.C.
After the 2001 terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, Graham began to launch into bitter attacks against Islam. Many Christian leaders made similar attacks, but Grahams were among the harshest and most public. He has labeled Islam "a very evil and wicked religion" and argues that it drives people to mass-murder. He has also claimed that the United States is being "...Islamized by huge contributions from Saudi Arabia to our universities to pay for Islamic studies, to support Islamic causes."
