Profile:
Name: Book of Ecclesiastes (Hebrew: Qohelet , "The Speaker")
Author: various, but attributed to Solomon
Dating: 3rd century BCE
Book of Ecclesiastes:
The name of the book of Ecclesiastes comes from the Greek Ekklesiastes, the title
given in the Septuagint as a translation of the Hebrew qohelet, which comes from
the verb for "assemble." More philisohpical than religious, the book of Ecclesiastes is
unique in Hebrew scriptures for it's skepticism and relatively dry humor. It was probably
written around the 3rd century BCE and scholars believe that it is the product from
anywhere between two and four different authors.
