Biography:
James Dobson is a child psychologist and son of a Pentecostal minister who has become famous for using fundamentalist Christianity as a basis for his advice on how to manage children and families. He first publicly advocated his position on traditional modes of authority and discipline with his 1970 book Dare to Discipline, a work which was widely perceived as a challenge to the teachings of the popular Dr. Benjamin Spock.

Reaction among child psychologists was so negative that Dobson was compelled to focus almost entirely upon working with conservative Christian parents who already accepted Dobson's premises and welcomed his advice. It was around this time that he began his radio show "Focus on the Family," a program which remains popular among evangelicals even today.

One of the things Dobson is known for is his jailhouse interview with Ted Bundy in 1989, a mere hours before his execution. In this Bundy claimed that he was driven to kill women because of his experiences with pornography, a claim which Dobson accepted uncritically and has used ever since as part of the basis for his crusade against pornography in society.

What is the Philosophy of Religion?
Sometimes confused with theology, the Philosophy of Religion is the philosophical study of religious beliefs, religious doctrines, religious arguments and religious history. The line between theology and the philosophy of religion isn't always sharp, but the primary difference is that theology tends to be apologetical in nature, committed to the defense of particular religious positions, whereas Philosophy of Religion is committed to the investigation of religion itself, rather than the truth of any particular religion.
