Letter to the Colossians:
Colossians is one of the Pauline
letters generally regarded as likely authentic, probably written on 60 or 61 CE.
Apparently, some of the members of the Christian community in Colossae had begun to
fall into a heresy which Paul wanted to correct.
What exactly this heresy was is not entirely clear - but because of references to food regulations and Sabbath traditions, it seems to have been Jewish in nature. In response, Paul cautions the members to be wary of false teachers who pretend to provide ideas based upon so-called traditions. Paul was also concerned with how faith was more important than knowledge, advocating a reliance upon Christ and the goodness of God rather than anything else.
