Definition:
Cahenslyism was a movement in the Roman Catholic Church during the 19th century and named after Peter Paul Cahensly, a German politician who visited the United States in 1883. Many Catholics believed that their ethnic roots and identity were being lost in the pluralism of the United States and that this was exacerbated by the predominance of Irish in the priesthood.

Some Europeans were also disturbed at how people with European roots were losing their cultural and linguistic heritage, and so supported the effort to have at least some Catholic churches set up along nationalist lines - ensuring that in each parish, the priest would come from the same ethnic stock as the parishoners. American bishops were aghast at the suggestion because it was diametrically opposed to the Catholic mission of creating a single, unified, universal church.

What is the Philosophy of Religion?
Sometimes confused with theology, the Philosophy of Religion is the philosophical study of religious beliefs, religious doctrines, religious arguments and religious history. The line between theology and the philosophy of religion isn't always sharp, but the primary difference is that theology tends to be apologetical in nature, committed to the defense of particular religious positions, whereas Philosophy of Religion is committed to the investigation of religion itself, rather than the truth of any particular religion.
