Biography:
John Bunyan (162-1688) was a lay preacher in a Baptist church who wrote
The Pilgrim's Progress from This World to That Which is to Come, more popularly known
as Pilgrim's Progress. This work describes the experiences of a character known
as Christian who begins to experience spiritual needs, becomes aware of his sinfulness, and
then finally converts to faith in Jesus Christ. He is, in essence, a "pilgrim" to the Heaven.
The book was a popular sensation and, for a century afterward, most Christians were as
familiar with that as they were with the Bible.
