Biography:
Bruno Bauer (1809-1882) was a German theologian and historian who became famous
for his critiques of the Gospels and his conclusion that the figure of Jesus was not
historical but, rather, a redeemer created by the early Christians on the model of Old
Testament prophets. Bauer's views continue to be radical and modern theologians
rarely mention him in a positive manner.
