Definition:
This term literally means "against Christ," or an opposition Christ. It only appears in the Bible in the Gospel of John. Referring to false teachers, the author writes "Even now are there many antichrists." Thus, according to him, it was possible for there to be multiple antichrists and that it was not any kind of office.

Currently, however, the term has come to refer to a sort of office. It is believed that the Antichrist serves Satan and will, at some point, be allowed to rule the Earth until Jesus returns again.
