Definition:
An abbey is either a monastery supervised by an abbot or a convent supervised by an
abbess. The name was originally used within the Benedictine orders and later came to
be applied more widely. An abbey consists of several buildings, including a church, an
infirmary, a cloister, a guest-house, and more.
