Definition:
The principle of "executive privilege" means that the President can reveal or refuse to reveal certain information to legislators or the public based upon the President's opinion as to how such a revelation will affect national interest - especially with regards to foreign policy. The concept of executive privilege does not exist in the Constitution. Instead, the power is inferred from the fact that the President is given authority over certain aspects of national government.
