Definition: Seth is the name of a an alleged "spirit guide" which Jane Roberts claims provides her with fundamental information about the nature of reality. Among the things she claims to have leared from Seth are that each person is really a God and creates his or her entire physical, mental and spiritual reality. The material world around you is not independent of your consciousness because, moment by moment, your consciousness creates that reality.
Roberts' contacts with Seth, beginning in the late 1960s, were instrumental in the modern revival of mediums who claim to be able to contact the spirits of the deceased. Spiritualism had been very popular in the late 19th and early 20 centuries, but for a while it had waned as other beliefs captured the public's attention. After Roberts, however, spiritualism (no longer called that) once again began to play a central role in various non-traditional religous beliefs.
