Definition: A common form of anthropometry, the art of physiognomy involved studying the shape and configuration of a person's face in order to determine their character and intelligence. During the 19th century, many criminologists used it under the assumption there existed particular "criminal" features which would them differentiate between law-abiding citizens and criminals.
