Definition: This literally means "liver viewing," and refers to an ancient practice common among cultures like the Babylonians, Hittites, Etruscans, and others, and involved divination using the liver of a sheep.

During ancient times, it was believed that the liver is the seat of life - thus, the future can be foretold by closely examining particular livers. First the priest asks the relevant god a question, then sacrifices a sheep to that god and removes the liver for examination. The practice was often used alongside palm reading and astrology.
