Definition: The term "Ganzfeld" is a German word meaning "whole field." Ganzfeld experiments were done in an effort to see if psychic phenomena could be detected even when all auditory and visual cues were eliminated from the subject. Homogenous stimulation was provided for the eyes and ears; the former by means of halved ping-pong balls and the latter by means of so-called white noise. These experiments have achieved a large degree of symbolic importance among parapsychologists because of their supposedly positive results achieved in multiple studies by multiple people.
