Definition: According to spiritualists, a spirit medium extrudes something called "ectoplasm" from every orfice in his or her body during a séance. The term ectoplasm comes from the Greek words ektos and plasm, which mean "exteriorized matter." This material sometimes takes the form of a face or hand, but usually just drapes over things.
