Biography:
Edgar Cayce (1877-1945) was an important forerunner to the modern New Age fascination
with channelilng and prophecy. He was called the "sleeping prophet" by some and received
national attention for prophecies and medical diagnoses, both allegedly derived via
supernatural means whenever he entered a trance.
Belief in the abilities of Cayce is effectively maintained by the Association for Research and Enlightenment (ARE), an organization founded in his name in Viriginia Beach, Virginia. Unfortuanately, Cayce made a number of predictions which have thus far failed to occur - like that the lost continent of Atlantis would rise from the oceans in the 1960s.
Cayce also offered to diagnose people via letters - the person did not need to come to him in person but could, instead, simply write to him in order to learn what might be the cause of their ailments. Unfortunately, it happened more than once that Cayce made a diagnosis of a person who had died since the letter had been mailed. For some reason, however, Cayce never perceived this dramatic change in condition and instead simply rattled off a treatment to help them get better.

This is the main index for issues dealing with skepticism, critical thinking, logic and arguments. The first section is Critical Thinking itself - how to think about claims and arguments you hear, how to critique arguments, and how to formulate your own arguments such that they are more likely to be sound and valid. The second section is about Skeptical Investigations - the practical application of the critical thinking skills covered in the first section.
