Definition: Believers in UFOs and alien visitors have long pointed to cattle mutilations as evidence for the idea that beings from other worlds have come to our planet for one reason or another. According to traditional accounts, cattle are found dead, bloodless, lacking internal organs, and with the appearance of having been working on with surgical skill. Believers argue that there is no natural explanations for the mutilations and, hence, they must have been caused by aliens.

Unfortunately for believers, natural explanations do exist. Cattle die by the thousands out in the ranges, without any help by aliens. When they die, blood always pools into the lowest parts of the body, creating the appearance of bloodlessness. Scavengers always go for the softest parts of the body, and this is especially true with cattle because the skins are so tough. Extensive investigations have found such blood pooling, have found evidence of scavengers, and have not found any evidence of surgical work.

In addition to the fact that the "alien" theory offers no explanation for the evidence at hand, it also raises more questions which cannot be answered. For example, why only take parts of a cow rather than the whole animal? Why leave evidence behind rather than try to disguise what they had done? What is so fascinating about American cattle?
