Definition: The Bermuda Triangle is an area of the Atlantic Ocean with points at Miami, Bermuda, and Puerto Rico. According to some, this area experiences an unusual number of mysterious incidents and disappearance of planes and ships. Theories as to why this happens range from UFOs to strange magnetic fields or even time warps.

There are a number of problems with this belief, however, For one thing, the exact scope of the triangle is unclear - different authors make it out to be different sizes and encompassing different areas. Also, it is not clear that, given the location of this area and the amount of traffic it receives, there have actually been an unusual number of disappearances and problems.

According to the U.S. Coast Guard, "there is nothing mysterious about disappearances in this particular section of the ocean. Weather conditions, equipment failure, and human error, not something from the supernatural, are what have caused these tragedies."
