Definition: A common aspect of spiritualism, automatic writing involves one or more people holding some writing implement and then allowing "spirits" to guide their hand(s) in the writing of some message. The writing is not supposed to be performed by the people but instead they are supposed to allow their hands to be "guided" by unseen forces. This is very similar to what is alleged to happen with a Ouija Board.
