Definition: An astral body is supposed to be a duplicate of our physical body which is either non-material or made out of some other matter which is "finer" than the matter of our physical body. Our astral body is said to be capable of experiencing the same emotions as our physical bodies. More importantly, it is used to explain what we experience during sleep and dreaming because our astral body is claimed to leave us during sleep and have its own experience, returning in the morning to communicate them to us as "memories" of dreams. Ultimately, however, this is little more than an ad hoc hypothesis of dreaming.
