Definition: Mormon beliefs include a doctrine known as "blood atonement." According to this, there are some sins and crimes (like murder) which are so heinous that the sacrifice of Jesus is simply not enough to redeem them. The only way that they can be redeem is for the person to pay with his life - thus, atone through the shedding of his blood. This idea that Jesus' sacrifice cannot atone for all sins is a significant divergence from traditional Christianity.
