Definition:
The term zaddik is a Hebrew word which literally means "righteous one" and can
simply mean any righteous person or, in the Hasidic tradition, a spiritual leader. Some
portions of Jewish tradition teach that it is because of the zaddik that the world exists
at all and, so long as at least 50 zaddik continue to exist somewhere, the world will
not be destroyed.
