Definition:
In Jewish tradition, Eve is the first woman and was created by God from one of Adam's ribs. The
etymology of the name is uncertain, but it may mean something like "the mother of all things"
or even "living being."
The Jewish and later Christian depictions of Eve are generally very negative. Eve's role in the story of the Garden of Eden is to give in to the temptations of the serpent and disobey God's orders, bringing sin into the world. As a result, Eve is often used as an example of how a person can be tempted and sin.
