Definition:
Edom was a land populated by people who, according to Hebrew tradition, were descended
from Esau, the brother of
Jacob
from whom the Israelites were descended from. In
Numbers
20:14-19,
they are depicted as refusing to allow Moses and the Hebrews to travel through their
territory on the way to Canaan. Edom fell some time during the early 5th century BCE, although
there is evidence as to how or why.
